You might want to look into ntop for bandwidth monitoring, that will cover all protocols not just the web proxy / HTTP traffic, and all devices. Although it can be a little resource hungry in itself
Code:

yum --enablerepo=base-extras install ntop

John - did you get out of bed the wrong side today?

I tried ntop (I think it was ntop - it was based on the round robin database concept) about a year ago. It kind of worked but I recall it didn't really present the data in the form I was after I think....e.g. internet usage per device per period (e.g. day).

@Alton - would Nagios give one the final info I'm chasing, e.g. a way to bring up a graph or table? (i.e. as opposed to having to go digging through log files and do some scripting work). Which of the Nagios products were you referring to exactly?

well.. i have not used nagios extensively yet. Just started toying with it just a couple weeks ago. The person that suggested to me actually works in a large organization that uses a very custom nagios that tracks just about anything network related as in net usage, uptime, ping to host, to many to list. But he showed screen-shots of it showing things that you are after. As for xbox usage and such im not sure how that would work. His organization uses nagios in an snmp form to gather the info. Im currently just using the plain old out of the box nagios core and plugins. But from what I used and what the guy i know showed me. Im sure it will do what you want. But to get that type of detail that you are looking for. Im sure you will need to do alot of configuring and custom templates and such to gather that info. I havent used it that much yet as that im still working on making things custom as in what your looking for.

installing nagios though, would it be advisable onto my CC server however? Ie it wouldn't be like installing.a module that integrates in with CC would it? Ie would a typical CC admin perhaps the running of nagios in parellel with CC on the same box?

Greg.. thats how i have it I pretty much every single module in cc plus ntop, dolphin, email, 3 websites ftp server vpn and also nagios. anyhow, nagios does not run with cc or intergrate with it at all but you are able to run it on the same box. but you just use the gui to access it localhost/nagios or whatever you want to have it set as. Its also not setup like ntop although it can be which is what im working on now, and it still using less resources compared to ntop.

Ok thanks for confirming. How does nagios hook into the the CC transparent proxy though? Like how does it ensure it tracks all ongoing/outgoing traffic? Does it look at all traffic and rely on CC ensure all traffic has to go through the CC box perhaps?

no not at all. nagios will be completely seperate of cc. it will just use what you set it as, what kind of traffic to look for. etc...

thanks - any suggestions re which Nagios installation guide to follow/look at (i.e. as being closest to CC). They are listed here:

nagios.sourceforge.net/docs/3_0/quickstart.html

For example there is:
* Fedora Quickstart
* openSUSE Quickstart
* Ubuntu Quickstart

www.unixmen.com/linux-tutorials/151-how-...n-rhel-centos-fedora

this one is basically the same as the one i used, the one i used website is not loading. But its bascially the same. Make sure when you download the nagios core and plugins you actually go to nagios website and grab the latest ones.
