Bandwidth Manager won't work with PPPoE 9 Months ago
Hello,
It seams there is a problem with Bandwidth Manager package and firewall when I enable the PPPoE on the WAN interface.
Originally I had this problem on a 6.2 installation. The machine was working fine for the last 2 months using eth0 as LAN and ppp0 as external interface using PPPoE on eth1. Yesterday I installed Bandwidth Manager without problems, but after entering the interface's limits the LAN computers lost internet connection. The firewall service does not start until I removed the installed package.
I understand that there is no problem with my particular installation since I recreated the problem in a virtualbox. Simple fresh COS 6.3 installation with 2 ethernet, one used for LAN and one for enable PPPoE. No firewall rules, no other modifications. After installing Bandwidth Manager, as soon as I change the interface speed limit the firewall service won't start anymore.
I have to say I am very disappointed since most features I need from such box are not working as they should:
- promised Zarafa with support for 3 outlook clients cost $10 without those 3 free licenses
- Zarafa wont support multiple domains (we have only 6 PC but... 2 email domains
- xp cannot find and join COS as domain controller
- cannot block internal IP range (x.x.x.x-x.x.x.y).I had to add each device separate on firewall
- transparent proxy won't let pass ssl
I hope future versions will have better functionality.

I seem to have just hit the same issue.

Attempting to add any rules to the bandwidth manager causes the firewall to go into panic mode according to the logs and I lose internet access. Delete the rules and it all comes back to life.

I'm in the process of replacing my old M0n0wall on a WRAP board with ClearOS as a NAS/router and therefore cannot avoid having a PPPoE interface.

I FOUND THE SOLUTION!!!!!
Zentyal 3.0
It is fantastic, I tested with all options, I can filter protocols, block ip, QoS working over expectations ...
and you don't have to pay $10 for Zarafa. It's working out of the box.
Aaaa, and there is no annoying Marketplace.
ClearOS was a nice dream...
