I noticed the transmission how-to said its looking for maintainers. what skills do you need to maintain 3rd party modules?

I can volunteer to do the RPM packaging and building. Other maintenance tasks include:

- Being familiar with the software
- Monitoring the software for bug and security fixes
- Beta testing new versions
- Beta testing upgrades
- Documenting anything worth documenting

Added the clients to the Howto... thanks Nick!

By the way, I merged your init script with the one from Fedora. The Transmission daemon definitely required some unusual hacks to make the script behave in a Red Hat like way.

Just a quick thank you to every one who has helped get this off the ground and now into an RPM!

Grate stuff.

yes, the RPM is ready! Thanks Peter Baldwin. I will install Transmission this evening.

seems indeed like a lot of work. Is it difficult to build a RPM?

Peter Baldwin,

The RPM installs fine, and Transmission is running smoothly!

a small suggestion. When you add the following code to the settings.json file. You can auto import torrent links (drag the torrent to the Flexshare). I made a Flexshare called auto-import-torrent. You can also map this as a network drive in Windows.

Code:

"watch-dir": "\/var\/flexshare\/shares\/auto-import-torrent",
 "watch-dir-enabled": true,

For a software developer, building an RPM is not too bad with some notable exceptions. There might be some patching and build issues to deal with, but it's generally doesn't take too much time.

I'm not convinced it is much better than some of the other options available as you have to have your flexshare open for it to work well. I don't think that is much easier than transmission-remote-dotnet which has an auto-paste from clipboard feature. If you want one click downloading and use Firefox, have a look at the Autotrans addon.
