Re:Transmission How To 1 Year, 10 Months ago
Great news! I'm also very interested to test this RPM. I'll find transmission a good torrent client. I think a lot of home users want to use a torrent client. So this is a basic app for a ClearOS Home Server Edition!

I noticed there is a how-to for Transmission in the Howtos section. Transmission is in the repos.

I just installed Transmission following this how-to (forum).

is it difficult to fulfill a job as maintainer?

Hi the how-to is up but there doesn't appear to be any RPM's yet, it was pencilled for 5.2 I think as a personal project by Peter?

Just need to finish off the init script tweaks... almost there.

The init script I did was a bit of a hack really. I was just trying to emulate the original init script. I also kept it parametrised where it could easily be hard coded. TBH there is no need for a pid file. That was part of emulating the old script. It does nothing much. Similarly there is not much point in the /var/lock/subsys/$NAME file. The main thing is to make sure transmission is not started twice.

(.... also I am pretty new to Linux and bash)

Done! The Transmission software is ready to go:

Transmission BitTorrent client

Please let me know how things go. I'll make a quick announcement in a blog if no showstoppers are found.

Installed and works a treat - thanks very much Peter! if all goes smoothly I may retire torrentflux-b4rt.

If you use Windoze, there is also a very nice front end called transmission-remote-dotnet which you may want to add to the How-to.
