Windows tech needs help installing ClearOS 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Hello,

I need some help, possibly today if anyone can. I'm pretty technical, work in the IT field as desktop. My issue is that I'm trying to install Clear OS version 6.2, the beta build for the 1st time 2 days now and have no luck.

I 1st tried what someone on the website said to do was use unetubin (forgot how to spell it), the software to use the USB to install clear os. I tried that and when I tried to install, it says the media can't be found, copied the ISO file onto the hard drive I want to wipe out and when I select install.img, it says error and says do ctrl alt delete to reboot.

I tried doing the url download.clearfoundation.com/.... all the way to see the image file on the ftp site, but said unable to pul .....img, tried loading it on my qnap server, looked like it was going to pull, but was stuck at 0% for a while and gave the samae error message.

The machine I'm trying to install it on has Server 2008, and I want to wipe it since the machine has 2 NIC's. I can use one for the LAN and one for the internet, can always reinstall server 2008, don't have anything critical.

This is for home use and I want to accomplish this task, but I'm a little heated because I'm not a Unix or Linux person. Is there a bug on installing this, or am I doing something wrong?

Burn a cd, install from CD.

Problem solved.

I think there are some posts about people having usb/net install issues. There is no problems with CD's though

Ok, thanks, but when I burn from the cd by my Windows 7 default burning program and it prompts me for the install media. I select cd room and it says it can't find it either. Unless I'm doing something wrong?

Hi Jamaal Sandy welcome at the clearfoundation forums.

USB installation is not yet supported. This is a request in the wishlist section (see this). Of course you can vote and leave a comment for this feature!

I never tried a netinstall so i can't comment on that.

About burning the ISO via the standard Windows burning software, I have never had any problems burning ISO's but you can use imgburn. Used this in the past. Did you select the ISO(image) you want to burn?

Hello, thanks to all for your advise. I ended up solving the install by doing this incase anyone else gets stuck.

1. Boot from the cd as stated in the previous posts.
2. when trying to install, select URL and add this: download.clearfoundation.com/clearos/com...mages/image.install.

I did see a case that it would come back and state unable to retrieve download.......
The mistake I was making was that after images, it would double the path saying images\images\install.img.
Once I took out the double path, it downloaded and installed successfully. Thank god.

Again, thanks for everyone's help. I have a lot to learn about this Linux based software.

I'm puzzled why after burning the ISO which contains the installation media you then selected the URL method? just using the local media would have been fine normally
