TOPIC: Webconfig very slow in loading
#1873
Webconfig very slow in loading 3 Years, 5 Months ago
Aloha all,
I just finished running the latest updates on my ClearOS firewall. The update process went great, but now when I load up the web interface on the console, it is loading super slow. I have been sitting here in front of the console for about 10 min. and it is still loading the interface. Does this have to do with the SSL which was reported when beta 1 was released? Any help on this would be great The same thing also happens when I try to load up the web config throught HTTPS.

Thanks,
Brian Low

Hey Brian,

You might be experiencing the sudo/network issue. Try installing the update to see if that resolves the issue:

yum install sudo

Aloha Peter,
I had to do 2 things

1) I Did modify the etc/hosts file as Wanwizard suggested in my post under the Webconfig /ui group.
2) I ran the suggestion that you have suggested in this post I ran a yum install sudo. I then restarted the Firewall. After the restart the system started working great

Just wondering, why does sudo fix the issue? What type of coding did the repair?

Thanks for all your help on this
Brian

Hi Brian,

There are details in Red Hat bug report. The patch was basically to undo a one-line workaround for a Solaris 7 bug. We'll probably push for a better solution upstream, but we'll keep the patch in place for now.

Aloha Peter,
Thanks for the update Now I can see that this is not an ssl issue but a DNS issue Thanks for all your help After applying the patch and changing my hosts file The system is running a lot cleaner

Thanks again,

It's good that this can be resolved, since I'm running into exactly the same issue. However, I can't even get to a place where I can change the hosts file or execute a YUM command. If I boot into the web console, it freezes and stays that way forever (as in this post). If I try booting to one of the other text-based terminals, it wants me to login but doesn't accept my login name (administrator) or the password I entered...that does work for the initial login on the console and the web config console (before it freezes).

I can't seem to get to the server via a browser either (nothing but timeout errors), so I'm not quite sure how to proceed.

Re:Webconfig very slow in loading 3 Years, 5 Months ago
Aloha Steve,
Here is how I repaired my issue

1) I used my Windows laptop and ran putty (an SSH client) to the server's IP address. ( This is your gateway).
2) I logged in as root on the system. This will take a long time to get to a prompt to type, but be patent, it will appear
3) I then cd to /etc and nano the hosts file.
4) In the host file I changed the locahost.local... to my system name (eg. solidstate1.securityx.lan)
5) I saved my changes and then ran "yum install sudo"
6) When this was finished, I restarted the firewall server (shutdown -r now).
7) When the firewall was restarted, everything worked very clean

I hope this helps you

Thanks,
Brian

Yes, it's a bit of a chicken/egg issue... sorry about that. The next release should be coming in the next 48 hours.

That's good to hear. I am having some of the same issues on equipment that is more than powerful enough for the ClearOS software and the webconfig just drags.

DELL Power Edge 2970 Rack Mount
Dual Xeon quad core processors
4 Gigs of RAM
4 Gigabit Broadcom NIC's
RAID 5
Hot Spare
1.1TB Storage
