I have one suggestion on this though. With a normal alpha / beta cycle it allows you to gauge the public for any issues, bugs. May I suggest you have an alpha / beta module section so bigger module updates can be tested just the same way before they are rolled out as final products?

... and ...

So we can expect module updates when a module is ready? So not when the OS changes of version number?

Here's the plan (still current under review BTW). We will categorize apps into two buckets:

- stable apps that won't change that much (PPTP VPN is a good example)
- unstable apps that will likely have rapid release cycles in the early stages of development

The various different apps can have their own release cycles of course, but we are going to "strongly encourage" a 6-month cadence with upgrades & betas for all the apps marked "stable". This 6-month cycle will follow the upstream cycle:

- ClearOS Enterprise 6 (version 6.1.0 under the hood) will launch based on source code from upstream's 6.1 releases.

- Upstream will likely ship their 6.2 release around November, and we will quickly follow up with a short beta (version 6.2.0 under the hood). This short beta will give everyone an opportunity to test app upgrades for the stable apps.

Business users need to know that a critical server/gateway isn't constantly upgrading every couple of weeks. On the other hand, some of those bleeding edge apps can be handy, and keeping up with the latest is sometimes the only practical way to do it.

Hi Peter,

That sounds good to me. Certainly some of the fun modules which the community AKA Tim comes up with I'd like to be bang up to date as they aren't mission critical stuff to the running of my server but certainly improve it a lot.

I was mainly concerned with the core features but you've covered that off nicely.

So the stable Clearfoundation apps and the upstream source code will have a release schedule of 6 months. Correct? All other apps (community, etc) will have a variable cycle.

I like the idea!

Will installed apps automatically update if there is a newer version or would we need to go to the marketplace to kick that upgrade off?

There will be an auto-update feature and it won't be that much different from what is there in 5.x. That little widget that you can see on the right-hand side (screenshot) is where you will see if an app has an update available. At first, the auto-update option will be a global setting, but in the long-term we want users to fine tune everything.

I'm sorry for the stupid question, but for marketplace I need to register first? If I push "create account" nothing happens...
I'm waiting for AD connector.....when it is ready I can try if it works well in my business
