TOPIC: Community 6.2 installs as professional

Community 6.2 installs as professional 1 Year ago
When installing the community-edition of 6.2, I go through the first-install-wizard, which opts me for a registration with only professional options.

Downloaded clearos-community-6.2-i386.iso.

First time it displayed Community-editon on the opening screen of the wizard, now it will only display Professional.

What's the issue here?

Great work by-the-way on 6.2.

Hi Mark,

If a "yum upgrade" is run before registering, it will upgrade to the Professional Edition. That was a hack that we added to get the Pro upgrade working (to get around some weird yum caching/timing issue). That hack will be removed in the next release. For now, the box needs to be registered before a "yum upgrade" is done.

Note: that "critical updates" step that you see in the wizard is fine - that is a selective upgrade.

Hi Peter ,

Is there then a way to stop the yum upgrade right away ?

Kind regards,

K.

Hi Karel,

I installed the community-version, but then, before running through the install-wziard, I performed a "yum upgrade". When you go through the install-wizard first, there is no problem running "yum upgrade" from the commandline because the system is then already registered as a community-version.

So install, run install-wizard, register and then your free to use "yum upgrade".

Grtz, Mark.

I have the same problem as I have installed community edition though the installation defaults into professional edition and I have to register the product.
Through registration I had to select trial subscription while it was a community edition.

How would I change the registration into community basic subscription before thirty days have been expired?

Thanks.

Emmanuel.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to downgrade to Community. You will have to re-install the system.

Hi Peter,

I did not choose to install professional edition, how will I make sure during the re-installation it defaults into community edition instead of professional edition?

NB: I have downloaded the community edition version.

With Thanks,

Emmanuel.

Hi Emmanuel.

Go through the installation wizard and register it. If a Community Edition system is not registered first, then a command line "yum upgrade" will upgrade the system to Professional.

This will be fixed in the next release. In fact, this recent change gets us 80% there. You should be able to run "yum upgrade" without the surprise upgrade.

I had this same problem. I went through the install, then through the installation wizard. While I did the registration I noticed that I had to choose a subscription. I didnt choose a subscription. i clicked "register system" and it told me that I had to choose a subscription. That is when I looked here.
I never typed yum upgrade... Is this something it does automatically at some point?
