Network error - error configuring your network 2 Years ago
Hi guys please help me,

I was trying to install the ClearOS 5.1
The Setup loads fine.
Then you need to fill in some network information.

Specify internet IP address: [X] Dynamic IP configuration (DHCP) -> ok
Nameserver ip: ----------- -> OK
Then it comes:
Manual tcp/IP configuration: Specify lan IP address:
Ip adres: 192.168.1.254 / 255.255.255.0 -> OK
Then it holds for a couple of seconds and then i get an error message.

Network error: There was an error configuring your network interface
I tried a couple of ip address but it doesnt keep one.

I am trying to install it on this system:
mainboard ASUS P5KPL-AM SE

Hi Jon,

Your error message looks like it already explains the exact problem and this issue has been described in many other threads on this forum and in the User Guide.

System Requirements
"Generally, ClearOS does a good job at auto-detecting hardware and most mass-market network cards are supported. We recommend avoiding the latest available hardware since drivers may not yet be available."
You can search for a solution on this forum or tell us what NIC types you are using, so someone will be able to assist you installing the correct drivers.

Greetings,

John

Can you post the output of 'lspci' and 'cat /etc/modprobe.conf'?

Hi all,

New user, moderately new to Linux...

I don't necessarily want to hijack this thread, but I'm having the same problem. I've tried installing ClearOS a couple of times and unfortunately have 2 NICs that aren't recognized out of the box. I'm hoping that someone can help me with a solution for the original poster's problem. Note that I don't have the box "in line" but am trying to set it up prior to implementing it within the network topology. I have only a single cable attached to eth0 for now.

LSPCI reports there are 2 ethernet adapters; an onboard nVidia nForce2 ethernet controller (rev a1) (00:04.0), and a Realtek RTL-8169 adapter (rev 10) (01:07.0). The output from cat /etc/modprobe.conf provides "alias eth0 r8169" and "alias eth1 forcedeth". So the onboard controller is eth1 and the add-in card is eth0.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Thank you for any help.

Why do you say the controllers are not recognised out of the box? The RTL-8169 certainly is. What is the problem you are having?

Thank you for the comment.... You're right, if the two NICs weren't recognized 'out of the box' they wouldn't have been listed with an alias in modprobe and assigned a port.

My problem is that I cannot get an IP address via DHCP and have no external access. I also don't know which ethX is assigned to external or internal network. I've looked through the online resource and it looks like the assumption that the user has an intimate knowledge of the linux cmd line, which I don't.

Thank you for any suggestions.
