I just installed ClearOS on an older Dell desktop machine with a 2.4GHz P4 and 512MB ram. It has a standard 3c509 PCI nic and an embedded Intel nic. I configured it as a basic Internet gateway/firewall with DCHP for a wireless AP.
The throughput is less than 300Kbps connected to an unloaded T1 even with the AP out of the loop and it takes over five minutes for the logon screen to load on a remote browser. I don't see anything alarming in the system's logs, no high CPU load, etc.
Can anyone tell me what might be going on, or should I just blow it away and start over to see what happens?
