Network Configuration -does this make sense 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Basically I'm reconfiguring my network (actually this is what lead me to clearos I was trying to find a decent wired router and none seem to exist [exluding commercial grade ones for $100's or ks] and then I heard about the general idea of running router software on x86 and some searching lead me to clearos which sounded really good so I tried it and here I am...)

The general desgin is going to be

Floor 1| /-----4 Port Ethernet Hub -------> computers
Floor 0| Modem --> Clearos<|
Floor 2| \ ------Belkin Wireless Router --> computers

as opposed to the current desgin of
modem-->router-->computers
|---> 4 port ethernet hub -->computers
all on floor 1

Questions;
1. does this make sense?
2. how exactly do I make the belkin more of a relay; would I just set it as an access point? The router can be configured to act strictly as an access point, bypassing all of the routing and firewall functions. To do so, select "Enable" and type in the IP address you want the Access Point to have. or is there some more complex way I have to do this besides turning of DHCP ?

apparently it didn't care for my space-bar based formatting
you should still be able to understand it though

For formatting, put your stuff inside [code] tags.

If that is what your Belkin instruction manual says to do then do it. The universal alternative is to turn off DHCP, fix your LAN address and network mask and disable the WAN then only use the LAN ports. Just make sure the LAN IP is not something already used on the LAN but in the same network range. On floor 2 you will be be able to use the Belkin both as a wired switch and WAP.
