Re:DLNA server for ClearOS 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Both mt-daapd servers running on my macs were installed via ports so I only assume they are current. As for my ubuntu box I just installed via apt-get. The ubuntu box is running a little oddly though. I set it up lastnight so I haven't had much time to tinker. daap works great with my xbox and xbmc.

Send me the url to the "semi-new" one you are referring to and I'll work on packaging it.

it looks like the stable branch 0.2.4.2 is newer than the SVN in your link (2008-4-19 vs 2007-5-17).

There is a fork (named oddly enough forked-daap) that appears to be newer but I'm not sure of its status. I think I'm gonna tackle the latest stable mt-daap (0.2.4.2) first though.

I'll post when I have something.

You are correct Ron, sorry about that. His page mentions only 0.2.4.1, but sure enough, SourceForge has a newer 0.2.4.2.

From what I have been reading, I would not suggest the forked-daap yet. It was written for a single platform, as has various dependency and compile issues. There is a resurrection effort being spoken about (fireflymediaserver.org) but it hasn't gotten off the ground yet.

Thanks!

Drew

Here you go.

download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:...multimedia/CentOS_5/

I haven't had a chance to test it on ClearOS yet but it seems to work on SUSE. Let me know if there are any problems.

Actually I didn't remove it from that site, the OpenSUSE Build Service maintainers did it for me (without my knowledge I should add) because of complaints.

The complaints were due to the fact that the source wasn't provided as part of the install. This is not entirely my fault because the maintainer of MiniDLNA only posts a statically linked binary for download on is sourceforge site even though the project is open source (GPL2). Apparently this violated the policies of the OBS and they had to remove the package until I can rebuild from source (providing the source rpm as well).

I have put in a request to the MiniDLNA developer to publish a source tarball in addition to the statically linked binary so that I can build the package appropriately in OBS. In the mean time I am trying to get a new package built form the source available via CVS.

In Justin's defense (Justin Maggard is the developer of MiniDLNA), the source is available via CVS so there is no GPL violation, it just makes building form source more difficult.

Keep checking back (both here and the repo at opensuse.org). I hope to have something soon.

Cheers.
