TOPIC: DLNA server for ClearOS

Re: DLNA server for ClearOS 2 Years ago
Ok so iv got the service to run with out any error messages.

But i cant see the server from itunes only media player which is not really a problem for me as i personaly think iTunes is one of the worst media players out there and only my bro and sis use it(just my opinion).

The real problem that i have is that there is no music in the shared minidlna service! Yet the configs point to the right dir, all my music is MP3 at 320. And there's around 120GB in there.

Any idears please

I don't think iTunes is a DLNA client. I certainly can't see my DLNA servers on the network through iTunes. WMP12 (not that I use it much) is DLNA aware and shows both of my servers and the contents. My PS3 also shows/plays content from both.

Check the media_dir= line(s) in the minidlna.conf file. Make sure they are pointing to the correct directories (case sensitive). Also make sure the directories exist. (It looks like you have already done this)

If the above is all correct, you can restart the minidlna daemon forcing it to rescan the media_dirs by running the following:

/etc/init.d/minidlna rescan

Another question. Are you specifying the media type in the media_dir= definition? (i.e. media_dir=A,/var/flexshare/shares/store/media/Music -where the 'A' specifies that this directory contains audio files)

Thanks for the tips guys but still no joy

Not tryed this yet but dose it matter that with in my music dir its then all arranged in to folders e.g /music/artist/album/mp3s ?

If this is the case would i then have to add each folder individualy because if so then it dose not look like minidlna is for me!

Iv got lost of music all sorted in to files

Thanks for any replys

EDIT: Ok so it is actualy working for me now think iv got so much music that it takes a little while

Cheers for this one, works like a dream. I'm currently using XBMC client and it works really well.
PS3 side of things seems pretty good however, when playing certain movies it doesn't like certain file type's "Unsupported File Type" mkv file with DTS are one's that are giving me problems.

You can easily get mt-daapd running on ClearOS, install epel repo and your set.

The semi-newer mt-daapd, or the ancient one? The old one I always see packages for won't do FLAC.
