TOPIC: DLNA server for ClearOS

Re: DLNA server for ClearOS 2 Years ago
I am using it with my XBox 360 without any problems.

I have also tested it with 2 iPhone apps (Media Link Player Lite, media:connect) and they work just fine as well.

How about we get it integrated with flexshares so that it is an option that can be selected when configuring a flexshare?

For feature suggestions, here is the project site: sourceforge.net/projects/minidlna/

(I'm glad to see that the package is being used and appreciated. )

I assume you have things in iphone format already though? Given most portable devices need a specific format, any options for transcoding likely for this? I googled and saw it didn't have, but not sure if it's planned. I need something for my psp!

Yeah it doesn't have any transcoding support - hence the 'mini' bit

You would need to use Twonky Media Server, Mediatomb or similar. Both partly rely on VLC being installed...which was possible on 5.0 but i'm not sure anyone has done it for ClearOS5.1 yet

@Simon: I rip/transcode all my stuff into H.264 and MP4 because I find that not do those codecs work with iPod but most other platforms as well.

Where it may be a disadvantage to not be able to transcode on the fly, it does mean that you can run on slower/lower power hardware (i.e. Atom). Also, no on the fly transcoding means that the media streams with its original quality settings. These things, paired with the simplicity of configuration, have caused me to be very pleased with MiniDLNA.

Hi Ron.
I just ripped about a hundred of my DVDs to put on a server, currently in VOBs. And I also have a few tv shows in divx/xvid.
I realise H.264 is great for a lot of devices, but the old xbox (of which I have a few for media players) don't handle it too well. But they're fine with xvid/divx or just the ripped VOBs.
Then the xbox360 needs DLNA to make it happy, and can play xvid/divx or H.264, but not VOBs.
But then I also have a PSP which is a little picky on format/resolution too.
And I got the wife an iphone, just to complicate things more.
Thankfully I don't try to stream much to the Wii

I know I'm asking for a lot, but if one solution could handle it all I'd be very happy. Transcoding would go a long way to help that (assuming I could use random profiles for different devices).
Unlikely I know :\

Does that directory exist? you can check by running :-

cd /var/flexshare/shares/store/media/music

MiniDLNA runs as root so should be able to read the folders. Have you checked the syntax of the line for errors or typos?
