TOPIC: Change default behaviour for subscription to post
#7015
Change default behaviour for subscription to post 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Its fine that I can subscribe to a thread with email notification. It is not fine that I am automatically subscribed to each and every thread where I have submitted a reply. I know I can delete the subsriptions but that is akin to opt-out, which is not considered acceptable behaviour on the internet.

At minimum subscription should be opt-in. The ideal would be having the option to chose the default behaviour in my profile.

Can anything be done about this? Or should I adjust my spam filter settings?

Peter

P.S. It would also be nice if I could correct the typo in the heading

Hi Peter, agreed! although for info if you use quick-reply you will not be subscribed to the thread

The post title also appears limited to a set number of characters, so you have to delete one to fix the typo

Thanks for the quick-reply tip. I guess you use it all the time to avoid inbox flooding?

Its not the character limitation. Its simply that the author of the original post cannot change the heading after first save.

Yes! otherwise my mailbox would be full by now

There is a limitation - although to be fair i've not tried modifying the topic title till I had moderator role, you can try and modify again if you like? (i had to edit 'changing' to 'change' to fit the extra character...

Many thanks

Peter

P.S. tried the delete characters approach on one of my replies. Could change it to "Re:Change default behaviour for subscription to po" (misspelled river in Italy). Not beautifull, but it works for me as well.

Hi Peter,

Maybe this can help:
Community -> Community Profile
Privacy - Emails and Notifications
No, No, No and Save.

Hi Peter,

What I recently discovered is this:

  • On the Forum page click "My Profile."

  • Click "My Subscribes".

  • Select everything and click "Delete" until the list is empty.
(Display "All" didn't work for me)

  • That should do it

    Greetings,

I know that (see my first port - warts, spelling errors and all).

But my point is, I should by default be able to opt-in, not be required to opt-out.

Just like it was in the old forum, where I could choose to add posts and threads to my "favourits" for safekeeping and easy reference.

    Hi Peter,

    You are right
Maybe it's something for the wish-list in the ClearOS Roadmap.
