CANNOT download the installation files! 1 Year, 3 Months ago
|
|
|
Hi!
This is driving me crazy. I have been trying for weeks now to download the VM version of ClearOS. I tried 3 different ISPs, 3 different PCs, different browsers and same problem. It terminates before end, or show that it fully downloaded while in fact it hasn't (34%, 54%, 95% complete). I noticed there are others that complained about similar issues but that was weeks ago.
What's the problem???

Yes, there are problems. They think it is a bad mirror. Peter of Clearfoundation asked people to duplicate the error and try to ping the bad server.
| Code: |
ping download.clearfoundation.com

But you probably already read this. What did you try to download? The "ClearOS Enterprise 5.2 VMware Image"?

I just finish downloading the "ClearOS Enterprise 5.2 VMware Image" and the md5sum is correct. Really weird stuff is going on.

As always - check the MD5 and file size of the finished download to make sure it matches.
I've seen this on a single test (of several), but its sporadic and I temporarily lost connection to the server. If you use a tool that can resume downloads it shouldn't be a problem

Marcel, thanks for the replies. I am going to give a try from home.
Tim, I appreciate it. I would like to give a try to ClearOS (I'm also evaluating Zentyal) only to check out the web filter portion of it. IDS would be nice too. I download a lot of software, sometimes file over 1GB and never had to act differently. Just used Chrome or IE, hit the server and download. I probably messed up a handful of download over the last 3 years but never as much as 5-7 from the same link. Just really odd to me and I guess I need to get a Download Manager which I never need. Anyways, thanks for the update! I'm only a WindoZ sysadmn after all.... LOL

I tried one last time from home with my Comcast connection. I have 15Mbps downstream. No one else but me used it this morning at home. I started the download and it "completed" after 100MB. So yeah, I will use a download manager.
I think ClearOS needs to be aware of this. Asyr made a comment that he tried as well and same issue. I could be wrong but I think most new users come here with little experience with this "free" product. And I doubt a lot of them will be persistent if their download fails everytime. They probably won't even bother to post a comment in here. I know I am not being helpful so far but just wanted to give you my 2 cents. You guys might be losing a lot of interest because of that.

I used GetFlash as a download manager and it worked out ok. I know, some will say "Duh!" but last time I used a download manager was when I used a 56K modem in 1997. Once I went to DSL, fiber, T1, residential cable, I never had the need to use one ever again. Hell, I even downloaded fat ISO from Microsoft and Vmware all in one chunk. I know, if it failed I would have to re-download it but it's been SUPER rare for me to have a download fail on me.
Ok, now, to get a manual under PDF format, same story? (saw another post about it) I need to email clearOS? This is painful but I'm not giving up yet...

We are aware of the issue, but just can't find or duplicate the problem. he logs on the download servers look fine and we see a normal download rate. ClearOS registrations are normal too. So - we have a gremlin somewhere and it's *very* annoying.
We're rolling out a new mirror system with the release of version 6 (starting with the Beta 3 release today). Hopefully, this issue will be resolved. It's a show stopper for the 6 release, that's for sure.
