Download Issues 1 Year, 4 Months ago
Hi Guys, it looks like you have a great product here and I am keen to try it.

I am new to your distro and want to use it but cannot get it downloaded. I am on mobile broadband currently and it is expensive and restrictive in terms of how much data I can transfer and they meter traffic both ways. I am destined for better internet and need to be patienctd - but how???

Anyway to the gripe; I have tried to download the VMWAre files twice with Firefox reporting the download finished but both times it was way short of the posted size. I Googled for a torrent but could only find the ISO so crumbled and decided to download that version only to find that the reported speed wasn't happening, in fact Utorrent reported no activity (I only have a laptop at the moment and have a policy of leaving Windows on Laptops until it fails) .

I then tried to download the ISO from the mirror and had Firefox reporting that the download had completed when it was 200 meg or some such. Has anybody had any issues of this type because I can't ever remember having one.

How about having the torrent link on the main download page as it is a great way to distribute data and please consider offering a VMWare torrent?

Kind regards,
Randee

Hi Randee Ashell,

First welcome at the Clearfoundation forums.

I checked Linux tracker and the tracker is reporting 27 seeds. So is torrent traffic not blocked by your ISP? I downloaded this week ClearOS enterprise beta 2 (http) and had no issues. Maybe someone with a good internet connection can post you the install cd?

about the VMWare images it's on the roadmap for verion 6.x.

Thanks for the prompt reply Marcel,

I must have been trying to download the torrent file when most had their computers doing other things as the it downloaded promptly when I tried it later. I am sorry that I am unable to seed due to being on mobile broadband but will be more than happy to do so when we have DSL working at our new home. The ISO is loading in VirtualBox as we speak and I am keen to get to know ClearOS as it looks easy to configure and is built on a very solid foundation.

I appreciate the kind welcome and wish you, and all, my sincere best wishes for 2012.

I'll hope you enjoy using ClearOS Enterprise as i do and if you have wishes, feature you like to see implemented in ClearOS Enterprise don't hesitated to post or vote in the wishlist section.

I also recommend to check beta 6.2 of ClearOS Enterprise. So you can see what you can expect in 2012.

I wish you a wonderful 2012!

Thanks Marcel,

I have it up and running and am amazed at how easy the configuration is, definitely the direction Linux should be heading in as we cannot expect to win converts and then ask them to learn an unfamiliar set of commands and procedures before they can use their systems how they need and want to; then expect them to have the patience to stick it out until they can discover just how powerful and configurable open source software is.

It sounds like you are happy with the new Beta, no doubt there will be some improvements all round. I downloaded Fedora 16 with Gnome 3 to put on my daughter's laptop the other day, as her W7 had died and she would not let me create the restore discs. I have to admit that I warmed more to gnome 3 then than I did when I first loaded it with Fedora 15. It sent me to LXDE straight away.

I am still not a big fan of bloated desktop environments and went back to Gnome 2 after issues with KDE 4, I think now that I will be an Fedora/LXDE fan for the desktop and ClearOS for servers, until I find something I like better anyway. The protocols covered in the Protocol Filter amazed me, as did the ease in which they could be denied or allowed, I am keen to investigate the web interface further.

Well done everybody involved in creating this for a fantastic product.
Kind regards,
Randee
