Running BIND 1 Year, 9 Months ago
I was wondering is anyone has switched to running BIND on the ClearOS system?

I have another Linux box that runs BIND for me, but I'd like to consolidate on one server if I can. I’d like to stay with bind because I have a system that runs with 2 views. The internal lan gets DHCP that is tied into DNS, and externally I serve up only a few IP addresses.

I realize that I'd loose the interface, but once I set it up, I rarely have to touch it after that.

Have never run dnsmasq on any Clarkconnect/ClearOS box, always bind and dhcpd. In fact, as with multiple servers, am running two name servers, one as master and the other slave.

OK, If I decide ro uninstall dnsmasq, and install BIND 9.whatever, it seems to me that I should uninstall the app-dnsmasq app, as well as the clearcenter-dynamic-dns, clearcenter-domain-services, and dhcp. I cant see a dhcp module, however.

If you are running BIND, do you know what modules to remove to prevent any accidental clobbering?

Don't uninstall anything... I just don't start dnsmasq or have it enabled in Webconfig...

Installed the bind rpms and dhcpd - that's it...

Code:

[root@danda ~]# rpm -qa | grep -v samba | grep -E "bind|dhcp"
bind-libs-9.3.6-16.P1.el5
bind-utils-9.3.6-16.P1.el5
dhcp-3.0.5-23.el5_6.4
bind-9.3.6-16.P1.el5
[root@danda ~]#

Setup the config files manually and run a cron script monthly to update the named.root file...

Thanks a bunch. I knew what to pull down, I just wasn't sure if it was better to remove the parts that would no longer apply from the interface.

You could compile bind from source and make a few tweaks ..
TUP does not keep up with the latest version of bind..
9.3.6-16.P1.el5 is what is available through the repositories...

I am actually heading down this path..
Will post back.. or maybe a HOWTO
--tired of the free dyndns stuff.. and yes clearfoundation does provide dynamic dns as a free gratis..
btw, I run bind (compiled from src) DNS servers at work on SL6
