The problem happens first time, second time, every time. I pointed the Windows 7 Internet Time Settings at both the IP and local DNS name, neither worked. I then pointed it at one of the clearsdn ntp servers (time1.clearsdn.com) and it worked fine. It does not appear ntpd is answering.

The error is always te same:

An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with x.x.x.x.

I will need to check my ntp.conf or ntpd.conf file when I get home to see what needs to be done to allow the LAN to access ntp. Also is the ntpd service running (service ntpd status) as I don't think it does normally? From memory ntp performs a single synchronisation once a night from a cron job rather than have the ntp daemon running 24/7.
