TOPIC: Dynamic DNS Clients?
#2730
Re:Dynamic DNS Clients? 3 Years, 4 Months ago
Hi thanks for the tips.
<IP address have been changed to protect the innocent>

After manually running /usr/sbin/dnsupdate the system log says:
Code:

Jan 5 08:50:55 system dynamicdns: Dynamic DNS detected Internet IP 666.44.174.126...
Jan 5 08:50:55 system dynamicdns: Dynamic DNS update not required on 666.44.174.126...

Yet secure.clearcenter.com/portal/dynamic_dns.jsp says:
Code:

Service enabled  666.44.191.244  January 4, 2010 - 9:38

I've just tried disabling and re-enabling the DDNS and rerunning ./dnsupdate.. .the system log keeps saying DNS update not required even though the system IP is different to that registered on SDN.
There is something simple I'm missing.... right?

Yep...re-read my post...the part about the cached IP locally on your server.

Yep, read the post, got the issue now - all solved. Thanks, it just took a little time to sink in.

Edit: "/usr/sbin/dnsupdate force" will force the DNS update and sync the caches.

Cheers

Re:Dynamic DNS Clients? 3 Years, 4 Months ago
This morning (after some scheduled maintenance by my ISP) my domain resolved to the IP address of my secondary connection instead of my primary. (I have a multiWAN config)
I've used this multi wan setup with ClarkConnect for a few years now, and have never observed this behaviour of missed Dynamic DNS updates.

It looks like the update after the scheduled maintenance went missing, but was mentioned as a success in syswatch. After reading this post, could this be a related problem?
Would someone be able to reproduce this behaviour?
I have a ClearSDN standard subscription till 2013

This is wat syswatch says
Code:

Thu Jan  7 01:59:10 2010  info:  system - dynamic DNS updated <- planned maintenance
Thu Jan  7 02:03:49 2010  info:  system - dynamic DNS updated <- primary up again

This is the ClearSDN log, pri is primary IP address, sec is secondary IP address
Code:

Automatic IP update  xxx.poweredbyclear.com  pri  January 7, 2010 - 9:38 <-manual update by myself using /usr/sbin/dnsupdate
Automatic IP update  xxx.poweredbyclear.com  pri  January 7, 2010 - 9:31 <-manual update by myself on clearsdn
<NO UPDATE AT 2:03> <- primary up again
Automatic IP update  xxx.poweredbyclear.com  sec  January 7, 2010 - 1:58  <- planned maintenance
