ms outlook and Thunderbird refusing to connect 1 Year ago  
after establishing clearos in my campus,
now some of the people are in trouble with their mail clients(ms outlook 2007 and Thunder bird)
they are unable to send and receive anything from their mail clients.

in firewall,all the protocols(pop3,pop3s,smtp,imap,imaps) that are needed for mail transaction are opened.
All outgoing traffic are also allowed.

please give solution for this..

Are they trying to connect to a different server for their email or trying to use your COS box as their email server?

Thanks David,
We have no mail servers at all.
They are just trying to connect smtp.gmail.com for importing their mails.0
"outlook cannot connect to your outgoing smtp mail server.please contact your server administrator". is the error they are getting.
all outbound traffic is opened firewall.
and
as i told already, neccessary ports for incoming connections are also opened

Checked the DNS resolving? If the client can't resolve smtp.google.com to an ip-adres, you'll get this error as well.

Try nslookup smtp.google.com on your desktop/workstation.

yes mark you are right.
problem was in my manageable L2 switch.
i just redirected all the requests to clrearos ip. before that it redirected it into other machine.
problem solved
