TOPIC: transferring ClearOS to another hardware

transferring ClearOS to another hardware 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Hi - I will be purchasing today the Backup/Restore service (5 gb) and here is my question.
I have server A, which is about to get several subscriptions, amongst them is the 5Gb backup so that I can restore it on another machine.

When I setup the new machine B and then migrate the backupA by restoring to B, will these subscriptions be available to this new machine?

How do the subscriptions work- are thei tied to the machine name?
or the external IP?
or maybe the internal IP ?

Please let me know.
thanks in advance,
Marcin

*** Beware, rant ***

I don't think you can expect ClearCenter (as opposed to ClearFoundation) to respond. The do not appear to respond to any forum requests about their products. They do not appear to respond particularly well to e-mail requests either. There have been a number of posts on the forum where people say they have e-mailed ClearCenter and got no response. I myself responded to one of their e-mails soliciting business to the address mentioned in the mailshot - accounts @ clearcenter.com - and I have had no response in a week. I do not understand their business model. Their response to enquiries seems to be terrible and I find their website very unfriendly. It is hard to find the information you want and impossible to find out how to contact them. That could explain why I have not purchased any of their services (domain hosting with mail forwarding and back-up is the one I am interested in).

thats really bad news.
I just clicked on Purchase and made a $300 purchase on some subscriptions to a server will be upgraded to another machine.
I also bought the backup/restore package so I really hope that these subscriptions will not get blown away when I change the hardware.

I noticed that there is some sort of a Serial Number (in Systems on ClearCenter.com), but I dont know whether the system is identified by an IP or what.

drats.

Can someone at ClearOS tell me, whether the subscriptions (OS and SDN) assigned to machine my macaddress, ipaddress or what else?

I need to know whether upgrading the hardware on a firewall terminates my subcriptions.

thanks,
Marcin

Did you see my post in your other thread? they are attached via your ClearSDN account to the specific machine. This is associated by the hostname during registration and uses a form of key. They are not tied to a specific IP or MAC as far as i'm aware...if you login to the Portal you can configure which services are available to which systems registered against your account.

EDIT: P.S I believe the best place to get support for ClearCenter related subscriptions is via the portal and ticket system

I didn't see the othe reply yet, trying to locate it.
So, basicaly, the answer to the most important question "can the subscriptions be transferred to the new machine once that takes over the old one", is "yes" ?

Oh boy, I just read the mentioned thread and the problems that people had:

Bare Metal Restore using Remote Server Backup

www.clearfoundation.com/component/option...view/id,31862/#31862

Hope the procedure at the end works (hasnt been tested on the thread).
The backup/restore really makes sense when You can replace the hardware because it is old, disfunctional etc.

I have already activated all the subscriptions and made a 2gb backup to the cloud.

I will post the results here and on that thread, once (if) I restore.

I am planning a restore today not too late in the day (today is a special day, if I dont leave the office early enough, my wife will kill me)
