TOPIC: Setting up mail (Zarafa)

Setting up mail (Zarafa) 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hi,

I bought Tim's Zarafa app. Thanks for packaging this looks really interesting! I have installed the app but then? I have absolutely no experience with mail stuff. I've searched for some documentation or how-to but can't find any. Can someone assist me?

Hi kris,

Thanks for the reply.

Did some investigation. You have to open port 25 of your firewall. I also checked if my ISP blocked port 25 but that was not the case. Second you have to make MX record. So far I've got no success to get the mail server working.

Glad you have got things working, its relatively straight forward once you know how

There is initially the mail stack setup as detailed here. You'll need to define the system domain name
www.clearfoundation.com/docs/release_inf..._release_information

For incoming mail, setup a DNS A or MX record for your domain pointing at your WAN IP address. Open port 25 for incoming SMTP mail, and port 465 for SMTPS if you need it.

For clients they can obtain their mail via IMAP, POP3, Webaccess, or Outlook plugin (the latter is purchased through the Marketplace $/user at a better rate than direct from Zarafa (!))

Configure your client appropriately using the local IP or hostname of your ClearOS machine, and connect to the ports as shown on the Zarafa webconfig page

For much more detailed information on Zarafa they have great docs here
www.zarafa.com/content/documentation

I need to compile a proper user guide that can be referenced

So some time to tinker...

@kris, Good to hear kris let me know what you did to make things working.

@Tim, Tim i suppose it was late when you read my message. My mail sever isn't running. I think i forget something to make things work. The settings i have:

SMTP Server

- Settings

Domain: mydomain.eu
Hostname: mail.mydomain.eu
Relay Host: (empty)
Maximum Message Size: 50MB

- User Policies

SMTP Authentication Enabled

- Destinations Domains

(empty)

- Trusted Networks

(empty)

- Mail Forwarding

(empty)

Zarafa Community

Zarafa Delivery Agent Running
Zarafa iCal Gateway Running
Zarafa POP/IMAP Gateway Running
Zarafa Quota Monitor Running
Zarafa Search Indexer Running
Zarafa Spooler Running
Zarafa Storage Server Running

System --> mail settings

Mail Domain: mydomain.eu

I've checked and port 25 is open.

Also I've created a MX record: mydomain priority 10 mail.mydomain.eu.

When i make a mail at gmail and use my mail address to send it to the mail never arrives. What I'm doing wrong?

Yes so it seems (and it probably was late!)

Hmm...check the contents of /var/log/maillog to see if mail is actually arriving. If so, any errors will appear here. You can find further clues in /var/log/zarafa/

If nothing is arriving then you still have a DNS / routing issue - your setup looks OK however. If you want to PM me the hostname I can try a remote telnet to confirm if port 25 is open. Is the SMTP server shown as running on the right hand side?

Just checked /var/log/maillog and the mail seems to be removed. Any idea?

Edit: Tim i will pm you my maillog file this evening. I'll hope you have some time to check.

Hi all,

I have a question on Zarafe mail. I like to donate the 10 bucks but like to test Zarafa first.
Can I buy Zarafa, test it on a Clearos 6.3 aand transfer the licence later to my life machine?

Thanxs.
