TOPIC: printing with a Samsung CLP-315
#27407
printing with a Samsung CLP-315 3 Years, 4 Months ago
I have a Samsung CLP-315 printer.
It is recognized by CUPS, but apparently ClearOS is missing the right drivers for it.
In the "Model/Driver for CLP-315" page i do not see any CLP-### printer.

What should I install?

Recommended drivers are SpliX and foo2qpd.

I tried using the advised "rastertosamsungsplc" PPD taken from Samsung's UnifiedLinuxDriver.tar.gz, but I wasn't able to make it work (CLP-315 (Default Printer) "Environment variable PPD undefined or empty, execution aborted.")

Please help because I'm quite new to ClearOS and I'm a bit lost.

Thanks in Advance
Mauro

Hi Mauro ,

AFAIK you can do one of the following:
    Use a different printer.
Makes no sense to mention this, but still ...
Keep on searching for a compatible driver that is on the COS box.
This can be time consuming, but it takes no brain power.
Find the right driver and install it.
For this you would have to get to know the Linux CLI.
    Compile the driver yourself.
IMHO you would need to be an expert developer for this.

I hope this points you in the right direction.
Greetings,

Hi,
I got partial success.
I managed to install the printer and to print a valid test page from server.
I can also see the printer both from Win7 and Linux (ubuntu 10.10), in the sense it is detected and installed correctly.
Unfortunately it does not print.
I see "Print file was not accepted (Unsupported format 'application/octet-stream'!)!" in client "Document Print Status" details page and docs don't show up in ClearOS CUPS job queue.

What should I check?

You could check google. I believe it is a pretty standard error. Here is one reference.
