TOPIC: Group does not exist. (domain_users) New User
#6612
Group does not exist. (domain_users) New User 1 Year, 11 Months ago
When I create a new user, i receive the message, "Group does not exist. (domain_users)" The message appears above the users info on the add user screen, where I can edit the name address, etc. At this point, it does not appear that the user has been created. Yet, when I click back on the Users link in the sidebar menu, the user is listed. So, It appears that the user was created. Also, new users do not have a home directory.

Hi Chris,

That was certainly an issue in some of the beta releases. Did you install from the latest ISO image?

Are you manually creating the group domain users? as this is actually a hidden built in group. All ClearOS users are automatically members of the allusers group

I downloaded the 5.1 ISO a few days ago and I believe that it was the final, released version.

I am creating users with the web interface or the console GUI. In either case, I get the same message. I am not creating users at the command line.

When I run the command getent group from the command line, I do not see domain_users or domain_admins. Shouldn't they be listed?

Yes, well...domain_users actually isn't, contrary to what I thought earlier, it is replaced with allusers group
Code:

[root@starlane ~]# getent group
...snip system groups...
allusers:*:400:[users removed for example]
domain_admins:*:1000512:winadmin,
domain_guests:*:1000514:guest
domain_computers:*:1000515:nomembers
administrators:*:1000544:nomembers
users:*:1000545:nomembers
power_users:*:1000547:nomembers
account_operators:*:1000548:nomembers
server_operators:*:1000549:nomembers
print_operators:*:1000550:nomembers
backup_operators:*:1000551:nomembers

Hi Chris,

Something happened in the LDAP initialization. There are a whole bunch of steps needed to get LDAP up and running. Several steps involve initializing the Windows/Samba bits and pieces. For some reason, it looks like this part of the initialization failed. You might find some clues in the /var/log/system log file (look for the word "trace").
