TOPIC: Clear as PDC no Windows servers
#6081
Clear as PDC no Windows servers 1 Year, 11 Months ago
I am new to Clear OS and planning on installing it this week. I love the features and everything this OS has to offer.

I was wondering if it is possible at all that I can use this server as the main DC without any Windows Servers ? So my Windows XP computer can authenticate to the domain that I setup on the Clear OS.

Also will it let me create group policies like we can on a Windows Server?

Yes.

Yes - exactly, that is one of its purposes.

Yes, but remember that this is a Windows NT4 type domain controller - not Active Directory. The same limitations apply as to MS Windows NT4 domains.

You can use NT4 style policies. Which can be created by using the system policy editor poledit, exe

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910203

You can also the the NT4 domain administration tools User Manager and Server Manager alongside with the ClearOS interface to administer the domain..

User Manger usrmgr.exe

Server Manager svrmgr.exe

I don't know ... I think yes, when you set it up as a PDC.
See the User Guide.

For additional information, there are a bunch of threads about that here:
Advanced Search (PDC in Windows Networking))

Yes it is an option in the webconfig, look under 'windows settings'. Default is 'simple file sharing mode' but you can switch to full PDC

For a guide to join your client to the domain see
