TOPIC: Ubuntu 9.10 LDAP authentication against ClearOS
#4873
Ubuntu 9.10 LDAP authentication against ClearOS 2 Years ago
I have some Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop computers - standard installation and fully updated.

I have tried to configure the configure the workstation to authenticate the users against the ClearOS server using LDAP.

I have followed the instructions given, but I just can't seem to get it to work.

There seems to be a lot of instructions of how to configure an LDAP server, but very little on how to configure the clients and the various websites I have seen seem to have different methods of implementing it.

Does anyone have clear simple instructions of what packages need to be installed and what entries need to be made during the configuration?

I know this answer is a bit late in coming. I only discovered your post due to a search for Ubuntu on the ClearOS forums. You need to publish your LDAP policy if you want it to be readable by other clients. Might I offer this as an alternative...

You can have your Ubuntu workstations be members of the Samba domain. This will prevent you from placing LDAP administrative credentials on local machines.
