I enjoy learning more about computers, and am on a mission to teach myself about networks, firewalls, VPN's, and file sharing. I have a daughter so I also want to learn about content filters.
I've tinkered with Linux off and on since ~1997. I was content with XP for several years, but when Vista came along I decided it was time to check Linux again.
I got on the Ubuntu bandwagon with a beta version of Fiesty. I've converted 4 Windows users to Ubuntu, 1 with XP in Virtualbox for Quickbooks. I've recently reloaded my system with Mint 7, converted 1 more Windows user to Mint, and am in the process of updating my following to Mint 7.
I got tired of fighting with my Linksys router, and looked at several firewall OS's. I stuck with Endian for a year of so until I got frustrated with the learning curve. I tried Clarkconnect and within 2 weeks I had more features working. Now I'm using ClearOs and have grand ambitions of throwing the "kitchen sink" at an old re-purposed Gateway case (now P4-HT 3.0Ghz, 4Gb ram, 15.3Gb Hdd + 4 250Gb Hdd). With any luck I'll have learned enough about PPTP VPN, FTP and Flexshares, LedgerSMB (so my following can ditch Quickbooks), and MythTv.
I'm recently unemployed, again, from the building industry. I start school Jan'10 at Heald in the IT learning Network System Administration.
