Hi folks. Just decided to join the community after playing with ClearOS for around 12 months now. I was a company accountant (unqualified) with responsibility for IT and ultimately 25 years experience starting with an IBM PC based network and working through ccpm, netware, AIX,SUSE and MS servers, I was made redundant in 2009 and volunteered at a local new social enterprise with no infrastructure and not much more money. I found the ideal server in an old satellite internet box with 2 network cards and ClearOS 5.2and it has now run faultlessly for nearly 12 months as a file server and intranet webserver . I also have an old pc running a similar configuration at home where I do a lot of testing, especially web-based open source apps, including groupware, accounting and ERP, CRM etc.. Could do with an easy to configure backup solution to an external HD or a connected client PC.
Hi there,
I never had the spectrum, started out with a BBC Model B :)
I've been in IT about 16 years, started out as part time looking after a NetWare 3 server (with no IT experience) and just learned from there. Am looking to leave full time job and set up a small IT business, looks as though ClearOS is my answer for small business / charity solution. Had previously dabbled building a similar server package using OpenSuse but it has not proved to be particularly robust. Also support Windows boxes, no formal qualifications for that but have been running a windows network for the last 7 years. Am a qualified Novell CNE but you don't really see that any more!
Spent the weekend under the hood of ClearOS but am still learning Linux as an OS so a way to go yet. Have been testing Kerio Mailserver on the platform and my remote control solution Simpe Help to see how they perform - all looks good so far.

Hi,
I look after the IT for BATA - where we currently use CC5, soon to upgrade once the full version comes out. The box supports about 150 users across 16 VPN sites, with content filtering, SQUID proxy and Static routing table.

Hi Duncan, good to get this group off the ground - there must be many more UK members out there :)
My back ground is actually in civil engineering, I work as a consultant after graduating from uni for a structural engineering company. On the side I also manage the IT of the regional office, and have done so for about 5 years. My IT background goes a lot further back, I started with a Spectrum when I was little learning how to programme in BASIC. Over the years i've dabbled with bits and pieces, mainly as a hobbyist, repairing and building PC's. I also moderated a hardware forum for a a couple of years and got heavily into overclocking / tweaking / hardware mods etc, so was quite up to speed with hardware issues. More recently (last few years) i've been dabbling with the server side of the things, particularly Clarkconnect, and still do the odd favour for friends when they bork their PC every now and then...usually for beers mind you.
Anyone else?
Hello fellow UK members.
Just thought id be the first to take the group verginaty!
So what's ervery one's back ground?
I my self have been on the planet for 27 earth years now, and am living near to stansted airport.
Started my career in my local, as an under water ceramics technition (wash up). Was there for 7 year's and worked my way up to comi chef. While i was there i when to cambridge regonal collage and did a NVQ in IT. Which was a wast of time if you ask me. Has any one heard of TX Creator kinder like visual basic. Not seen it since collage ether.
After 7 years at my local i did a shourt stint at Tesco's while i tryed to get into the IT buisness. After a year i got a job at a small local comapy called PC Flying Doctor's where i learnt most of my skills. Was made redundant with the rest of the starff just over a year ago now.
Since then iv been doing my own thing repairing computer's, virus removal that sort of thing.
And thats about it realy.
As for my love of IT our first family computer was an Atari ST i then moved on to the amiga and still have my A1200 some where. After amiga when bust i reluctantly moved over to PC's.
Any how thats me :-)
