I have been using Clark Connect since version 2.x When version 4.x came out, a couple of developers and I worked on taking 8 Clark Connect boxes and installed Linux HA (a clustering solution for Linux) on the boxes and created a huge cluster of firewalls. We then had contacts from around the world run thousands of cracks and attacks to the firewall. Some of the attacks took down one or two boxes but this did not take down the firewall system. and the test network stayed up with no issues ;) I am looking for a way to do this with ClearOS ;)
Virtual firewalls and virtual routers are an in-thing. Recently came a cross a dual-core system that has:
A mail server
An SQL Server
A web server
A firewall/forwarder
A file server
Each on its own virtual machine running on VMWare Server/ Nice installation, but wouldn't a single server be easier to manage? Oh, well.
How about as a virtual firewall on a vmware server in datacenter... It works and allows for individual customers to have a firewall and complete control. My suggestion if you do it. Only install the modules you need to keep the os clean and small.
