ClearOS Enterprise 6.1.0 Alpha 1 Released

Tagged in: enterprise

The ClearOS Enterprise 6.1.0 alpha 1 release has arrived!  This alpha provides a small window into what's in store for the upcoming release.

For end users, Marketplace, the fast web interface engine and usability improvements are the highlights of this release.  The Marketplace is up and running and a small set of apps can be installed.

For developers, the new ClearOS App Framework is now stable and ready for use. Whether you want to develop a free tool or a paid app, the environment for building new features for ClearOS is much improved.

For translators, the process of translating ClearOS Enterprise can get underway. Please contact developer@clearfoundation.com if you would like to participate!

Please keep in mind that this is an alpha. Some parts of Alpha 1 are quite polished, while other parts (ahem) need work.

Great to test this VM of ClearOS Enterprise 6.1.0. The boot logo of ClearOS is looking nice, the marketplace is cool. With other words a awesome Alpha. Thanks dev team for this alpha!

Included .raw file also kvm compatible.

Nice preview, but why only announce it for vmware and virtualbox, when the raw image also runs on kvm without any modification? Also, wasnt there some approach to have an container format which can be used directly with al of the major virt solutions?

Hi Stefan. Nobody on the core development team uses KVM so we didn't bother announcing it. These images came out of the BoxGrinder tool by the way. It's a very interesting project but it does have a few quirks.

I almost thought so. I prefer Virtualbox on desktops, but for headless systems, I love to use libvirtd+kvm. It also has some quirks, but it constantly improves and it integrates nicely with kerberized environments (via sasl+gssapi) and gives you fully transparent SSO.
This Box Grinder looks interesting, btw, thanks for the hint!

Thanks dev team.. What about VLAN feature?
written by Fadhili Ngalawa , July 18, 2011
This version will be very nice and it will attract many users, if found the GUI very interesting.
The alpha version does not give a lot of features, only few such as System, Network and Market Place.
I will appreciate if this version 6 will come with VLAN option in the Network category, this is very important for the LAN.
Thanks for the good operating system. Eagerly waiting for the final version in September.

Sorry - VLAN support is not on the roadmap - http://www.clearfoundation.com...admap.html However, there might be support for it in ClearBOX in the not-too-distant-future. It is a fairly common request, but there's never quite enough ooomph to get it onto the general roadmap.
